Topcoat Asphalt is committed to long-term service relationships with our valued clients by providing a quality product and quality placement along with technical support. Our major clients consist of State and Local Government, the civil construction industry and commercial businesses.
There are two asphalt crews, each with the ability to service any size project. A company fleet of eight trucks and trailers deliver asphalt in insulated truck bodies to our project sites. Our inventory includes a mobile asphalt plant with a 50 tonne per hour capacity in a B-Double configuration. This unit has successfully completed projects as far afield as Olympic Dam, Alice Springs, Broken Hill, Port Lincoln, Port Augusta, the Riverland, Nhill and Horsham in country Victoria (NATA Accreditation number 14970).
Topcoat Asphalt is certified to ISO9001, ISO 14001 and AS/NZS 4801.
Our Team Members
Fab is co-founder of Top Coat Asphalt Contractors Pty Ltd and as Managing Director has the ultimate responsibility for the Company and its operation. His hands-on approach and technical training have brought the Company to the forefront of the asphalt industry in South Australia. The asphalt plant and bitumen blending facility have been designed and constructed at the Wingfield depot under his direction.
Fab provides stable financial management and industry experience upon which the Company is built.
With a Diploma in Business Management, Andrew has over 30 years experience within the civil construction industry including ten years in the quarry and concrete supply industries and over 12 years in the asphalt industry. He has extensive experience in business systems management including the management of OHS&W and Quality systems.
Andrew has strong communication skills and industry experience with a proven record in business and systems management.
Aub Van Ristell
Aub has over 28 years experience in the asphalt and spray seal industry including more than 15 years at supervisory and management level. Aub has worked in every aspect of the bituminous surfacing industry and has been involved as project manager for major projects including several airports.
Aub joined us in 2004 as Contracts Manager and has responsibilities which include overseeing the estimating and tendering process for the Company, managing Company contacts and ensuring customer satisfaction, quality of works and safe work practices.
Aub’s skills and experience combined with strong leadership provide our clients with quality outcomes for their projects.
Gail commenced as Office Manager with Topcoat Asphalt in September 2008. Gail has more than 30 years experience in office management roles, including office management for a publicly listed company. She is responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day administration of Topcoat Asphalt.
Gail oversees the Administration staff and reports directly to the General Manager.
Gail is a member of the Australian Institute of Credit Management.
With an Assoc. Diploma of Engineering (Civil), Rod has more than 20 years experience as an asphalt plant manager and laboratory manager. His extensive experience in all aspects of asphalt testing and production is complemented by a further three years experience in raw materials testing.
As Laboratory Manager, Rod has the responsibility for development of all Company mix designs, production compliance testing and statistical records from our Wingfield laboratory. He has the overall responsibility of managing production quality from our Wingfield and mobile plants. Rod also liaises with our Team Leaders on field compaction test results of asphalt. Rod is on the panel of technical assessors for NATA.
Len commenced with Topcoat as Team Manager in August 2016. Len has been in the bituminous industry for over 31 years, having commenced his career working from the ground up in both asphalt and asset delivery. Len came to Topcoat as an experienced project manager responsible for programming and overseeing major projects. He has worked on DPTI pavement and rehabilitation projects.
As Team Manager, Len is responsible for the successful delivery of projects safely and to specification. Len provides strong experienced leadership in all aspects of technical processes including safety, training and endorsement of Company Policies and Procedures.
Jason is responsible for the programming and allocation of all works for the crews including client liaison. Jason commenced with Topcoat Asphalt in 1998.
Jason has worked through all levels of asphalt placement and was crew leading hand before being appointed to the position of asphalt plant supervisor responsible for the production of asphalt from our fixed plant at Wingfield and our mobile plant. Jason’s experience has given him a hands-on appreciation of projects and project requirements.
Rodney commenced with Topcoat Asphalt in 1991 as the asphalt plant operator at the Wingfield depot with the original drum plant before becoming Operations Manager in 1998. Rodney returned to Topcoat in 2006 after an 18 month absence to assume the responsibility of supervising production from the asphalt batch plant and the mobile drum plant.
Rodney is responsible for the supply of asphalt from the Wingfield batch plant and truck allocation for the asphalt transport and is also responsible for the ordering of all raw materials associated with asphalt production.
Rodney’s wealth of experience in asphalt laying and production along with formal industry training has given him an understanding of hotmix and its properties which, combined with operating procedures, provide the quality Topcoat Asphalt customers demand.
OH & S Officer
Sue Hosking is a Cert. IV Occupational Health & Safety, RGN – OH & S Officer.
Sue commenced with Topcoat Asphalt in 2008 as OH & S Officer and Rehabilitation & Return to Work Co-Ordinator.
Having lead the Company in achieving AS/NZ 4801 accreditation, Sue monitors and advises on health, safety and rehabilitation issues for Topcoat Asphalt. Sue has over 25 years of health experience, expanded by involvement in the mining and oil/gas fields.
Syd commenced with Top Coat Asphalt in 1996 as an experienced civil construction supervisor with extensive asphalt experience. Commencing as Foreman on the crew, Syd maintained that position until taking on the responsibility of Team Leader.
Syd is responsible for all construction carried out by his crew. Pre-site inspection for hazard identification, production rates and quality of finish are Syd’s responsibility. Under Syd’s experienced eye, training needs and crew development are identified. Syd brings together a unique combination of civil construction and asphalt experience to provide quality hotmix laying outcomes. Syd has been Team Leader in charge of major asphalt projects on Sturt Highway, South East Freeway, Port River Expressway and numerous DPTI Metropolitan maintenance contracts.
Terry commenced with Topcoat Asphalt in 2001 as a very experienced asphalt worker with more than 10 years experience in the industry. He has moved through our system from crew member to Leading Hand, then Foreman to Team Leader.
As Team Leader, Terry is responsible for all the construction carried out by his crew, pre-site inspections for hazard identification, production rates and quality of the works. Training needs and crew development are also his responsibility.
Terry has been Team Leader in charge of major asphalt projects on Sturt Highway, South East Freeway, Port River Expressway and numerous DPTI Metropolitan maintenance contracts.
Dylan commenced with Topcoat Asphalt in 2004. Starting as a crew member, Dylan has progressed through asphalt production and laboratory responsibilities to his current role as Production Manager.
Dylan has been heavily involved on the installation of updated systems to control both the original batch plant and the new drum plant. As Production Manager, Dylan’s primary responsibilities will be for management of asphalt and recycled asphalt.
John has responsibility for management of quality systems at Topcoat Asphalt. With over 15 years’ experience in quality and environmental systems management, John is ideally suited to continue to develop Topcoat Asphalt’s systems to maintain certification to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and AS/NZS 4801 standards.
As Systems Co-ordinator, John will monitor and further develop Topcoat Asphalt’s systems.
Debbie commenced with the Company in her current role in 2013, bringing more than 25 years’ experience in office administration to Topcoat Asphalt in a variety of office environments.
Debbie has primary responsibility for general office administration. With strong attention to detail, Debbie provides a broad range of administrative support functions to all sections of the Company. While office based, Debbie’s role ensures interactions with staff at all levels within Topcoat Asphalt.
